“No Farmers No Food”, as is aptly coined by someone, the phrase sums up the role of farmers in our lives in just four words. We at the department of agriculture and farmers’ welfare are dedicated to work for providing all possible assistance to farmers through our schemes/projects. These schemes are aimed both at increasing agricultural productivity and farmers’ income. This is because, only a prosperous farmer can think of and contribute to the making of a prosperous state & nation.
The department is also working towards diversification of agriculture by promoting alternatives of wheat/paddy, these alternatives could be other cereal crops, cash crops, fruits or vegetables. However, the farmers need to be given an enabling environment through research, demonstration, post-harvest technology and marketing linkages for which our
agriculture university and the agro-corporations are playing a major role. Our remote sensing centre is providing a better decision support system which can help improve agriculture in Punjab.
The department is also aware of some of the serious challenges posed by the depletion of underground water, soil toxicity and deterioration in environment. The schemes of the department are designed to solve these issues and increase productivity through saving of water, promoting organic agriculture, post-harvest residue management and so on. We under the able guidance of our worthy CM, are working towards prosperity of agriculture and farmers in Punjab. Our motto is “Kamyaab Kisan Khushaal Punjab”
